Making a submission to the UK Living Heritage Inventory.

Submissions can only be made by the communities of practitioners themselves, the people actually doing it. Submissions cannot be made by some faceless institution. But practitioners themselves are not necessarily set up to do their own representation. Thatchers might not believe that theirs is ‘cultural heritage’ at all and may not have the admin skills to do the paperwork and create a submission. Yet at the same time they may be struggling to find new apprentices to carry on their skills and trade.

Therefore, to help ICH communities navigate the submission process, DCMS have established eleven Community Support Hubs:

• Heritage Alliance https://www.theheritagealliance.org.uk/ consists of about 200 organisations often concerned with specific heritage sites and buildings.
• Heritage Crafts https://www.heritagecrafts.org.uk/skills/redlist/ has its own Red List of crafts – activities that produce a tangible product, such as a pot or a saddle
• Lowender https://www.lowender.co.uk/about/ is primarily concerned with Cornish cultural festivities.
• Museums Federation Cymru and Amgueddfa Cymru https://museumsfederation.cymru/ Welsh Museums
• Museums Galleries Scotland https://www.museumsgalleriesscotland.org.uk/ representing 455 museums
• NI Museums Council https://nimc.co.uk/ Northern Ireland Museums
• Rural Pursuits. That’s us! Ordinary country people! Not in a museum yet!
• Sporting Heritage https://www.sportingheritage.org.uk/  is primarily concerned with organised games such as ball games
• Traditional Arts and Culture Scotland https://tracscotland.org/tradarts/ Bringing together Scotland’s performance arts.
